First defender to score a Champions League Hat trick- Layvin Kurzawa (PSG 2017)

Paris Saint-Germain player Layvin Kurzawa has become the first defender to score a hat trick in the history of the modern Champions League as we know it . Kurzawa scored three goals in the space of 26 second half minutes as PSG thrashed RSC Anderlecht 5-0 to book their spot in the last 16 of the competition.

The 25 year old Kurzawa is also the second PSG player to score a CL hat trick after Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Parisians have now scored 17 goals in four CL group games, with no goals conceded in a group that also includes Bavarian giants Bayern Munich and Scottish champions Celtic.

Gareth Bale (Spurs) and Levian Kobiashvili (Schalke) have also scored CL hat tricks, but were playing at left wing in their respective games. Continue reading “First defender to score a Champions League Hat trick- Layvin Kurzawa (PSG 2017)”

Huddersfield Town- the last Premier League team to concede a goal in 17/18 season

Huddersfield Town became the last Premier League team to concede a goal in the current 2017-2018 season when West Ham’s Pedro Obiang scored against the Terriers in the second half of their game at the London Stadium.

It was an important game for West Ham- the last time, they lost three in a row at the start of the league season, they were relegated. However all those three losses this season have come away from home- the London Stadium was not available for use early in the season (they even had special dispensation to change the venue of their Cup tie), and they managed to turn things around in their first game in front of their fans. Tottenham’s first London derby league loss at home under Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham suffered their first ever London derby Premier League loss at home under Mauricio Pochettino when they went down 2-1 at Wembley to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side earlier this evening (August 20, 2017).

Spurs certainly had their chances to win and they were seemingly on course to do so after Batshuayi’s own goal that brought them level, but some poor decision making from skipper Hugo Lloris allowed Marcos Alonso to snatch his second of the afternoon (his first was a beautiful free kick) Continue reading “Tottenham’s first London derby league loss at home under Mauricio Pochettino”

Last English club to win in 2017 (Middlesbrough- 92/92)

Another unwanted record for under-pressure Sunderland bos David Moyes! His side lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough at the Riverside in midweek, with the latter thus becoming the last English team among the top four domestic leagues (20 Premier League teams and 24 each from the Championship, League One and League Two) to pick up a win this year.

Overdue for Boro, and secured for the club thanks to De Roon’s goal, but it looks like both the North-East clubs will be playing in the Championship next season (they’re 19th and 20th in the Premier League currently) while rivals Newcastle will return to the top flight. The last time Chelsea did not have a single shot on target in a Premier League game

Today’s fixture against Manchester United at Old Trafford (April 16, 2017) saw Chelsea fail to register a single shot on target (yes zero) as Jose Mourinho’s tactics worked wonders for the home side, who prevailed 2-0 to cut the Blues’ lead at the top of the Premier League to four points.

The last time Chelsea didn’t register a shot on target in the modern Premier League era was ALSO against Manchester United (September 2007)
